Hamlet HBL 9/18/14

In Act 4, scene 7, Claudius says, "That we would do, should do when we would; for this 'would' changes and hath abatements and delays as many as there are tongues, are hands, are accidents; and then this 'should' is like a spendthrift sigh that hurts by easing." How does this quote refer to Hamlet over the course of the play?

Throughout the play Hamlet changes dramatically. Starting as a calm and sane man he changes to a rather questionable and skittish man. The quote reflects the pace at which Hamlet changes throughout the acts.

This quote can relate to Hamlet's indecisive nature. After a while if one's "would" is not taken out, that same"would" or action can differ from the original goal and become sloppy; the mind gets in the way of the goal if you give it time to think.

It portrays the way he procrastinates, and by doing so, descends into madness.

Hamlet goes through a rapid transformation beginning early on in the play, going from sane to maniacal all do to his lack of decisiveness.

Hamlet is an indecisive person and this quote shows that as time goes on his actions change to reflect his feelings and thoughts.

I think it changes as Hamlet does. As the story progresses, so does Hamlets personality, habits, and actions. The quote reflects how Hamlet is indecisive.

This quote describes how hestitant Hamlet was to make a decision about any of his problems throughout the play, and how he got increasingly more indecisive as the story went on.

The quote portrays how indecisive Hamlet becomes over the course of the play. The question itself is questioning possible actions to take.

It shows his characters weakness of indecisiveness and procrastination and how it will come back to bite him if he doesn't change his ways.

Claudius is saying you should act before you think otherwise your mind will hold you back and you will question yourself. Throughout the play Hamlet is very indecisive and often thinks before he acts and this will most likely come back to haunt him in the future.

Cladius's quote describes Hamlet's change through the play, and that how we cannot act to make a decision. The way the quote is written shows indecisiveness, correlating to how Hamlet acts through the play.

I think this quote is an example of Hamlet's inability to make up his mind throughout the play.

In this quote, Claudius is explaining that with time intentions and height of emotions weaken. He explains that they should do when what they intend to do as soon as they intend to do it, or else time will continue and action is never taken. This applies directly to Hamlet and his flaw of procrastinating his revenge on Claudius.

This quote displays how hesitant Hamlet was to take his revenge on his uncle. He just becomes more and more indecisive and hesitant as the play goes on.
