Hamlet HBL 9/18

Think about Hamlet's relationship with Ophelia.  Does he love her?  Does he stop loving her? Did he ever love her?  What evidence in the play can you find to support your opinion?

I believe he did love her and as his sanity began to leave him he began to think to much about her making himself question his feelings. I think he was stuck between not knowing if he did, as well as if she loved him as well. This causing him to think constantly leading him to believe she meant nothing.

I think he did love her but started to go crazy, which in turn made him be unable to go with his feelings. This then made him think that she didn't care for him either and caused more crisis for him.

I think that he does love her, but the death of his father takes over his emotions.

Hamlet did love Ophelia, and was trying to protect her throughout most of the play. He told Ophelia at one point to go to a nunnery, because Hamlet knew that bad things were about to take place at Elsinore and he didn't want Ophelia to be a part of it. Because Hamlet was so indecisive, he never acted on his feelings, leaving Ophelia to think that Hamlet never actually loved her.

I believe Hamlet did love Ophelia once but the deeper you get into the play the more his feelings seem to shift. It originally seemed like he loved her but once claudius got involved he seemed to lose his feelings.

He did love her at one time before he started going crazy from the unfortunate events that was brought upon him. After a while, the revenge for his father overpowered his thoughts and Hamlet let Ophelia go out of his thoughts (especially after he thought of her a traitor and a liar). In the scene where Ophelia returns her stuff, the passion Hamlet showed her (either positive or negative) showed that he cared for her and still loved her.

I think he truly did love her. But as others were involved, he got scared about the future and what would potentially happen. As this happens, he begins to stray away from her.

I believe that Hamlet does love Ophelia. The death of his father and the traitorous acts of his uncle and mother have blinded him of all emotions except rage and revenge.

我认为哈姆雷特之前一直都爱着奥菲丽亚。但是我觉得他在发现他被被偷听之后对这段感情绝望了。

Hamlet did truly love Ophelia, but he felt hurt when she let people use her for their own selfish purposes (especially when the purpose was against him). He tried to protect her during the play but at the same time had to pretend to be insane, which caused her to become confused and think that he didn't love her. They both felt vulnerable during the play since both refused to admit how much they truly cared for each other.

Hamlet did love Ophelia, but I think after awhile his madness distracted him from his affection towards her. After going mad Hamlet questions his every move and because of this he starts to question his affection for Ophelia. Eventually he got to the point where he didn't know what or why he felt so he wanted to save Ophelia so he questioned their love in conversation and made her believe it never existed.

I think Hamlet did love her, and used her as an excuse to show his madness. By using her as a reason to go mad, he can have a reason to interact with Cladius and the rest of those in relation to Ophelia.

I believe that he did love Ophelia. Everything going on his life distracted him from seeing his love for her, but he always truly loved her. It is evident when he tells her to go to the nunnery.

Hamlet did love Ophelia even after he tells her he never did. Although he said he was acting crazy I believe he was actually crazy in love with her and just did not know how to expose his feelings. When he says he wants her to go to a nunnery because if he can't have her he doesn't want anyone else to have her.

In my opinion, it is true that Hamlet loved Ophelia, and never stopped loving her. I wouldn't believe that someone who sends love poems and presents to the person they love can so easily act horrible to them without a good reason. When Hamlet says, "Get thee to a nunnery," he was trying to warn her to get away because he was about to take revenge and didn't want her to be involved.

I believe that Hamlet did love Ophelia but as he started to go crazy over seeing the ghost and figuring out how and who killed his father. He then became very violent with Ophelia and almost demanding. I think once Hamlet went crazy, he began to show his love in a different way to Ophelia because he was more upset and angry. I don't think he stopped loving her, I think he showed it in a different way than before.

I think that Hamlet really did love Ophelia throughout the whole play. I think he acted like he did not love her to protect her from what he was about do. In the conversation where Hamlet says he does not love Ophelia, you can see that Hamlet is struggling to say he does not love her.

I think that Hamlet does love Ophelia, but I also think that he is trying to keep Ophelia out of his plan to take revenge his uncle because he doesn't want to hurt her. He is just trying to protect her. This shows in the book because he tells her to go to the nunnery. I don't think that he ever stops loving her through the whole play.

Hamlet most likely did love Ophelia. Whether he ever had intentions of marriage is uncertain, but the death of his father leading into his madness doesn't allow Hamlet to clearly show his love.
