Rank the characters (Othello, Roderigo, Cassio, Iago, Desdemona, Emilia)
in the play from most admirable to least admirable. Explain why you
arranged the characters in this order.
Desdemona is at the top because she is innocent and she really doesn't know what is going on. She is being used by the other characters, to make her look guilty. Emilia is second because while she gives the handkerchief to Iago she may not know the full intentions and is doing it for his love. Cassio is third because while he is guilty of starting the fight because of being drunk , he has a tragic flaw of being gullible , he's being framed when all he is trying to do is get back his reputation and overall he is thought to be honorable. Roderigo is 4th because he knows the intentions of Iago , but he thinks Iago is just doing it to help him get the love of Desdemona. He is almost like a puppet. Othello is fifth because he is gullible and too trusting of Iago. Although , he doesn't know the entire story he thinks Desdemona and Cassio are guilty and he wants them dead. Iago is last because basically all of his actions are evil and he got the position he wanted , but he is still acting out of hatred.
The most admirable character is Desdemona because she is innocent, Emilia is second because everything she does is to please her abusive husband, Cassio is third because he is not plotting to kill anyone or anything but he does have a mistress so that is bad, Othello is forth because he is making broad assumptions and being generally mean, Rodrigo is second to last because he is going along with Iago's plan, and Iago is last because he is pure evil.
1. Desdemona- She has literally done nothing wrong, and yet suspicion keeps being cast upon her.
2. Emilia- She took the hankerchief, but she was just trying to please her abusive husband.
3. Cassio- He is a good dude, but he has a mistress. Not cool bro.
4. Othello- He is a noble man, but is too easily swayed by feelings of jealousy and rage. He started out at the top of the list at the beginning of the play, but he has progressed into evil.
5. Roderigo- He is in a vulnerable state, but he is still plotting with Iago because he can't accept the fact that he was friendzoned. The use of prose shows that he is also a bad guy.
6. Iago- Pure evil. Why does he keep doing these things? What is even his motivation at this point? Is he working with the devil? Who even knows?
Desdemona- she never lied or did anything wrong Othello-jealous and naive, but didn't intentionally try to do anything wrong Cassio-lost control after drinking, but other than that he hasn't done anything wrong Emilia-lied to desdemona about the handkerchief, but just tries to win iagos love. other than that she has done nothing wrong Rodrigo-plotting with iago to trick and ultimately destroy othello Iago-has hidden intentions, selfish, and causes many problems (2-faced)
Desdemona, Emilia, Cassio, Othello, Roderigo, and Iago.
I placed them in this order because Desdemona did not do anything wrong even though she is being accused of doing such things. I placed Emilia next because she was simply was trying to please her husband and did not know all of the harm she is causing. She did lie though to Desdemona when she inquired about the handkerchief. Cassio and Othello both have done some bad things such as Othello being quick to judge and believe what Iago said about his wife. Roderigo and Iago are placed last as being least admirable because they have been conspiring and acting on their devious plans.
desdemona- innocent, never lied or did anything wrong othello- He's insanely jealous but he never intentionally hurts anyone cassio- admirable, lost control of himself and got in a fight after drinking emilia- Lied to desdemona about the handkerchief, hasn't done anything else wrong roderigo- working with iago to destroy othello iago- mastermind whos causing everyones problems
The most admirable character in the novel is Desdemona, because she hasn't done anything wrong. The next is Emilia because she only took the handkerchief to win the love of Iago. The next character is Cassio, because he doesn't really know what is happening to him, he is still a nice guy but kind of acts guilty around Desdemona. The next person is Rodrigo, because he only loves Desdemona and wants her, but he listens to Iago and does some planning. Next is Othello because he started out as a good guy but has become crazy with jealousy. The last person is Iago because he is doing all of these things for no reason, he just likes messing up peoples lives.
Iago is the top because to me his cunning is admirable, not good or moral, but admirable. Cassio is second because he is honorable and charismatic and relatively good in spirit. Desdemona is third because she is innocent and kind. Othello is fourth because I do not find his naivity, jealousy, and gullibility to be admirable traits. Emilia is the second least admirable because she is helping Iago and not trying to help herself. Roderigo is just pathetic and should be least admired for pursuing a taken women.
I ordered them the way I did for a number of reasons. I put the characters that the most admirable at the top. These people are the ones in they play that dont hurt anybody. The ones at the bottom are the people that have hidden agendas and are trying to ruin other people. That is why I ordered them the way I did.
1. Desdemona: she has done nothing really wrong and has been faithful to Othello. She is innocent and does not try to harm others. 2. Emilia: Emilia's gave away Desdemona's handkerchief when she knew it ment a lot to her. She only did this however to please her abusive husband and I don't believe she was trying to hurt anyone. 3. Othello: Othello has good intentions but because he is too trustworthy he is hurting the other characters. He fired Cassio and is accusing him and Desdamona of cheating. He wants to kill them even though they have done nothing wrong. Overall he wants to do what is right and is not trying to harm anyone. 4. Cassio: Cassio has not done anything that would make him a bad person, other then getting in a drunk fight once. He also has not done anything brave or admirable either. 5. Rodrigo: He wants to form a relationship with Desdamona who is married and is willing to lie to make that happen. He has shown no admirable qualities. 6. Iago: Iago is trying to destroy almost every character in the play. Othello did not chose him for a position so he decided to ruin everyone else's lives.
Desdemona and Emilia are both very innocent so they are at the top of the list. Othello has been told false information that has misled some of his decisions. Cassio is also being used by Iago to help get himself fired and to get Iago into a lieutenant position. Roderigo wasn't mentioned much but he still got in a fight with Cassio to get him fired. Iago is last because he is the mastermind behind all of the negative events that have unfolded, including the fight between Cassio and Roderigo, the lost hankerchief, and the seeds of doubt in Othellos mind.
Cassio, Iago, Othello, Desdemona, Emilia, Roderigo. I arranged the characters like this because they all have parts that make them unique. Cassio seems innocent, hes unaware of all the drama that is about to occur, and the problems that he is suppost to be the center of. Iago might be an evil character, but hes actually pretty smart. Hes willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants, comming up with elaborate plans to get there. Othello might be an honorable man, but he falls into traps easily. Desdemona is the sweet girl that is unknowing of what is going on and manages to dig herself unknowingly into a deeper hole. Emilia and Roderigo both have small parts. Roderigo is in the background, being used by Iago, and Emilia is close to Desdemona.
Desdemona is considered great by everyone who knows her, and she's a very kind person. Cassio hasn't done anything wrong except listen to Iago. Unfortunately, everyone does that. Othello is an honorable and admirable person for getting past racism and xenophobia, then managing to become a general. Othello just lets some of his insecurities get the best of him. Emilia is a sad woman who has allowed her husband to take over her, and make her do very evil things. Roderigo wants one girl too bad and is letting it take over his life. Iago is morally very bad, and shouldn't be looked at as a good person.
desdamona- innocent, never lied or did anything wrong othello- insanely jealous but never intentionally hurts anyone cassio- admirable, lost control of himself and got ina fight after drinking emilia- lied to desdemona about the handkerchief, hasn't done anything else wrong roderigo- working with iago to destroy othello iago- mastermind whose causing everyone's problems
Desdemona- She is unaware that others are damaging her and Othello's relationship and is a generally innocent character. Emilia-She is being mistreated and abused by her husband but still does everything she can to please him. Othello- He is a noble leader who is well respected by others, but is insecure, jealous, and wants people dead. Cassio- He is devoted to please Othello and takes responsibility for his actions, but still plays with Othello's insecurities. Roderigo- Desperate for Desdemona after she marries Othello. Iago's right hand man. Iago- He enjoys basking in his self-created path of manipulation and jealousy. A generally evil person with no known motives.
1. Desdemona - she is innocent and has not done the things that Iago is implying she has. 2. Emilia - gives Iago handkerchief but only with the intentions to get him to love her back 3. Cassio - has a mistress, got drunk and lost control 4. Othello - he is too naive, believes everything that is told to him, doesn't give Desdemona a chance to explain what really happened 5. Roderigo - plotting with Iago to take down Othello 6. Iago - liar and a problem-causer, selfish
1.Desdemona- she doesn't really have any idea what is going on. 2. Emilia- She would do anything just for Iago to love her. 3. Cassio- He is a good person for the most part, other than having a mistress 4. Roderigo- He is plotting with Iago to take down Othello 5. Othello- He has no idea that people are lying to him. He is extremely gullible 6. Iago-He is trying to get take down Othello out of hatred for him.
I would say Cassio because he is respected, has a really good reputation and he is already a gentleman. Then Iago is very smart and evil and thats very admiral, he is very smart. Desdemona is very loyal to her husband. Emilia is also loyal to her husband and wants his love even though he treats her badly. Othello is very admirable because he is very committed to Desdemona and he truly really loves her. I think Rodrigo is just Iago's puppet and just does what he says.
Desdemona- innocent, Emilia-tries to please her Husband, Cassio- honorable before his fight and regrets fighting and drinking, Rodrigo- Thinks Iago is trying to help him so helps him, Othello-wants to kill Desdemona and Cassio , and Iago- Pretty much just .
1. Desdemona - She has been faithful and innocent 2. Cassio - Also has done nothing wrong but he is just unaware of the real plot 3. Emilia - She gave the hankerchief to Iago but didn't know the intentions 4. Othello - asked for proof and tried to stay reasonable but is just too gullible 5. Roderigo - is being used from the start and is working with Iago so he gets what he wants 6. Iago - Two faced, although he has a good plan, he is working to end othello
Iago is my number one simply because he is out-smarting everyone and he played Hamlet. Dez comes in at a close second for being utterly nice. Cassio is just such a heart-throb and has done nothing truthfully wrong. Roderigo and Emilia both take the 4th spot on my list for being minor characters. Othello is last and rightfully last because of his minor flaws such as jealously and his inability to rationalize.
Cassio is the most admirable because in relation to the rest of the story, other than having a mistress, he doesn't intentionally hurt anyone and isn't motivated by jealousy or anger. His main goal in all of this is just to get back into Othello's good graces. Othello and Desdemona are two and three because despite them both being trusting and innocent in love and all that stuff, they were still gullible enough to let one person ruin an entire marriage in what, like four or five days. Iago is a jerk, but part of that is on them. Iago is fourth because even though he's the villain and ruins everything for everyone, at least he's clever enough to get the job done. You may be crazy evil, but props to you for achieving your dreams. Lastly is Roderigo, and that's because he's a wimp. He didn't have the guts to tell Desdemona he loved her before her marriage, and he gave Iago all his money to do something he was already going to do. He's dumb, a coward, and just keeps getting played. At this point, that's on him.
1. Desdemona - she's innocent and naive 2. Roderigo - all he wants is for the love he has for Desdemona to be returned. He can't help that he fell in love with her. 3. Cassio - He's being framed for something of which he is not guilty of. Overall, he's an honorable person, despite the drunk fight he got into. 4. Emilia - Although she took the handkerchief and gave it to Iago knowing that it was wrong, she only did it because she wanted to earn some type of appreciation from Iago. 5. Othello - He assumes the worst and doesn't believe in Desdemona's love for him. He chose to believe his friend over his wife. His jealousy gets the best of him, making him into a monster like Iago. 6. Iago - Obviously the least admirable. Every word he says is a lie and he cannot be trusted. He's two-faced and cunning, making it easy for him to gain Othello's trust. Everything he does is out of hatred and there are going to be many people who get hurt/dead because of his jealousy of Cassio.
Desdemona is at the top because she has no idea what is going on with Othello and Iago, she is innocent. Cassio is second because he is a honest and kind man, he was just a pawn in Iago's little game. Othello is next because he is a really nice guy who does not deserve Iago's wrath. Emilia is next because she just wants the love of Iago, so she is trying to win it by doing whatever she can. Roderigo is next because he is also just a pawn in Iago's game, he is not so innocent because he is playing along with Iago's game. Iago is last because he is the source of everybody's troubles and pains, without him, everybody's life would be much better.
1. Desdemona- she is completely innocent and oblivious to everything that is going on, she has done nothing wrong in the play and is the most admirable for her purity.
2. Cassio- he is a good character with good intent and has really done nothing wrong in the play. He is below Desdemona because of his drinking problem and his relationship with Bianca, but is still a pure character overall.
3. Roderigo- he is a bad character as he plots to steal Desdemona back and against Othello. he has been in the background though not having done much to drive the conflict in the play.
4. Othello- he starts off good, but in his plot to kill Desdemona and Cassio, he has taken a turn for the worse. He is below Roderigo because of his plan for murder, but is still just 4 because he is only doing this because he's been deceived.
5. Emilia- though she hasn't done too much in the play, her theft of the handkerchief is what gave Othello the evidence he needed to move on with his revenge. She knows Iago's plot and is doing what she can to help him. Her actions may be small but they cause major problems and she knows what she is doing.
6. Iago- he is by far the worst character in the play, he is the driving force off all the conflicts in the play and is obviously the least admirable.
1. Desdemona- She is at the top because she has done nothing wrong but is too innocent to see what is happening. She also doesn't know what jealousy looks like. 2. Cassio- Even though he has a mistress, he is a relatively good man and never actually did anything with Desdemona. 3. Emilia- Emilia is a liar because when she is asked about the handkerchief she says she doesn't know. Deals with an abusive husband. 4. Rodrigo- He is committing to Iago's plans and trying to get with Desdemona and break up Othello. Even though he isn't directly involved. 5. Othello- He hasn't done anything to intentionally hurt anyone but is easily influenced by Iago. 6. Iago- The most diabolical character going through with all the EVIL in the play. He sets up every character and frames everyone without them knowing.
Desdemona would be most admirable because she is not actually unfaithful and even when Othello treat her in a mean way she does not go against him, she still loves him. Emilia would be second because she seems to have her own thoughts and realizes that even though she is a women she deserves to be treated well. She also tries to be there for Desdemona. Third would be Cassio because although he does do a few questionable things like getting drunk, getting in a fight, and having an affair with Bianca(who he doesn't seem to even care much about) he is not intentionally mean he is only human and makes mistakes. Next would be Roderigo because the whole time he is trying to get with Desdemona even though she is a married woman and he even goes to the extent of hurting Cassio, but he does not want to kill him. Fifth is Othello because although he started out a good man he easily let his jealousy get the best of him and took the life of the person who loved him most even when she begged him not to. Lastly Iago is the worst because he had no conscious and felt no remorse for the terrible things he caused. He also is responsible for the deaths of many.

1. Desdemona
2. Cassio
3. Othello
4. Emilia
5. Roderigo
6. Iago
