Yes I think it's important to the play that Othello's a Moor because it gives a little explanation to his background, and provides insight on his insecurities. It also creates drama between him and Desdamona's father.

I think the fact that Othello is a moor is important to the story because it affects his self esteem and causes him to feel inferior to other men. It is easier for him to believe that Desdemona chooses Cassio over him because he is black than to face the fact that his insecurities make him more gullible to what Iago tells him.

It is important that Othello is a moor because it creates his insecurity and makes him too quick to act. This also gives the other characters a reason to think less of him and doubt his character. If he was not a moor he would be an average character and not have a reason to feel out of place.

It is important for him to be a moor because he needs to feel different than the people of venice. This is the source of one of his tragic flaws, his insecurity.

Yes, it is important because it affects him overall and makes him feel inferior to the other characters in the play. His insecurities are one of his major flaws and causes the whole conflict with Desdemona and Cassio.

It does become an important factor because Othello feels like an outsider, which leads to his serious self-esteem issues that make him easily influenced. Iago exploits Othello's insecurities about being different from the Venetians in multiple ways, and he leads Othello to trust him and his twisted opinions.

I believe it is important for the play, because him being a Moor allows for discussion about the xenophobia and racism of the time. Othello managed to succeed, despite being different, so that shows his ability and leadership.

Yes it is important because this makes Othello feel like an outsider and makes him feel inferior to everyone else. This will make his jealousy deeper, which is the main action of the play.

Yes it is important that Othello is a Moor because it explains why others can manipulate him so.

Yes, it is important, because because he is a moor, he has a lack of confidence in himself and can easily be manipulated by every other character, even Iago who was just a flag man.

Yes I think it is very important that Othello is a moor in the play because it gives his character individuality. It creates his insecurities and makes him feel different from the rest of the people in Venice

Yes because it is what sets him apart for other people. He feels like he isn't as good as the other people. This makes the play how it is because othello is inferior. He gets angry at this and makes the crazy decisions he does.

I agree that is important to the play that Othello is a Moor. With Othello being a Moor it gives him reasons to believe that Desdemona is unfaithful. His race made him feel that he was inferior to his wife and that she would cheat on him. His self-esteem was low because he did not have as nice of an education as the people of Venice. Everyone around him spoke in a distinguished manner and he felt he was below them.

Yes, being a moor makes him have a low self esteem and confidence. These make him jealous and insecure which leads to many problems with Cassio and Desdemona

I think that it's important because it causes him to feel inferior and allows us to see his insecurities. He feels like he doesn't belong so he has self-esteem issues.

The fact that Othello is a moor is important because it affects his self esteem and makes him feel like he is less than others. This makes him jump to decisions easily and not truly think about what was happening around him.

I believe that it is very important that Othello played the role of a moor because it showed that even though he struggled through many things due to his race, he was still successful in the end.

Yes it is important because it makes him feel inferior to the other people and therefore feels that he cannot trust Desdemona.

Makenzie Alger said...

Yes, because it makes Othello feel like he is ranked below other men. The fact that he is black surrounded by white men makes him feel more insecure and these insecurities lead him to believe everything anyone tells him, regardless of how crazy it may be.

Thai Tran said...

Yes, because I think he helps enhance his tragic flaw of insecurities.

Lynn Luckenbaugh said...

Yes it is important because it lowers his self esteem. This decrease in self esteem is what causes his increase in jealousy and its effects. He acts so quickly on his jealousy because he feels like an outsider who needs to prove himself. This fact causes problems for him.

I believe that it is important. It makes the relationship between Desdemona and him more controversial given the time period, thus adding tension to his jealousy. Othello is somewhat insecure about this, and thus is quick to rage when it comes to the prospect of Desdemona cheating on him.

I think that it is important for the play that Othello is a Moor. The fact that he is not Venetian makes him an outsider to most of the characters in the play and he is told that he is different on several occasions. This leads him to be insecure about his decisions and makes him trust Iago more. It also causes him to be jealous of Cassio more.

Othello being a Moor is an important part of the plot because it is a weakness for him as a character. Being an outsider creates in him an insecurity that leads to many problems. Iago specifically uses this weak spot as a way of planting doubt in Othello's mind, convincing him that he is alienated from the ways of the venicians and therefore cannot understand or see what is happening with the other characters. In essence being a Moor creates a blind spot for Othello. Unfortunately Iago uses that blind spot to his advantage.

I agree that it is important for Othello to be a Moor in this play. He is not from Venice so it makes him feel inferior deep down. This makes him susceptible to lies because he does not know Venetian ways.

I think that it is important that Othello is played as a Moor, because it shows that he is not like the other people of Venice. This leads to him being insecure with his decisions and his actions, part of which leads to his downfall. Othello also appears to be gullible and jealous, both resulting from him being a Moor.

It is very important to this play that Othello is a Moor. In this play Iago uses this fact to trigger Othello's insecurity and makes him jealous and aggressive. It is because Othello is a Moor that made his succumb to Iago's influence and this is crucial to the plot.

yes this is important because it makes him feel inferior to other people. This also provides an explanation of his insecurities which causes his self-esteem problems with trusting Iago. This also means that he believes that Desdemona would choose Cassio over him because of his insecurities. He gets angry that he is different from everyone else and makes such rash decisions.

Jared Briggs said...

Yes, because he needs to constantly be reinsured that he is doing the right thing for everything. This is why when Iago tells him that Desdemona may not be so faithful he right away thinks the worst.

Yes, I think its important for him to be a moor in the story because if he wasn't then Iago would not be trying to take his position and he would most likely leave him alone. Since he has the position of a moor and he is a head of him he hates him and realizes the only way to get in his favor and maybe get his position is to undermine him. If Othello was the lieutenant and not the moor and Iago was the moor then there would probably be no problem but since Othello has the position Iago wants that makes the whole story.
