Think about Hamlet’s relationship with Ophelia. Does he love her? Does he stop loving her? Did he ever love her? What evidence can you find in the play to support your opinion?
I think Hamlet did love Ophelia, but because she was not of noble birth he couldn't have a future with her. In the beginning of the play hamlet and Ophelia spend a lot of time together, then when Hamlet must kill the king he lets her go for her own safety. Also his love for her is shown at her funeral when he yells out . -Kat
He did love her but he was afraid to show her because he didn't want to pull her into his plan. He wanted to to protect her and that is why he wanted her to go to a nunnery. -Sarah Annibali
I believe that Hamlet thought he was in love with Ophelia. However, when he heard news that his father was murdered he became obsessed with his plan and forgot his love.-Kyle Azzara
I think that Hamlet loved Ophelia in the beginning but then forgot about her because he was too preoccupied thinking about his dad. He then remembered that he loved her when she was being buried and he argued with Laertes about who loved her more. Kelly
I believe that Hamlet has always loved her and never stopped loving her. There were times that he just didn't show it because he was too busy worrying about killing Claudius. After she drowned he professed how much he loved her.
I think Hamlet always loved Ophelia and never stopped. When he told her he didn't in the middle of the play we was lying to send her off and keep her safe. When she dies, he proclaims that he always loved her and he is crushed. This all leads me to believe he truly was in love.
He has always loved her and never stopped. He knew that things were going to get crazy so he broke off his relationship with her to ensure that she would not get caught up in the mess.
He has always loved her but he left her for her own safety. Hamlet knew that things were going to get bad so he broke off his relationship with her for her safety
He has always loved her but he left her for her own safety. Hamlet knew that things were going to get bad so he broke off his relationship with her for her safety
The man is in love and always had been. This is evident at the funeral when he gets terribly upset and declares his immense love for her. He unfortunately didn't let her know because he was caught up in other things, which led to her decline and death. Still, he's in love.
Hamlet did indeed love Ophelia as at her funeral he went into a rage at seeing her body. Also when he was acting crazy he tried to warn her to leave to protect her from his actions. Before the play they had to run behind everyone's backs to see each other as boyfriend and girlfriend (or the 1600s equivalent). If they did not love each other they would not had gone through all that trouble. I do not think he ever stopped loving her.
Hamlet never loved Ophelia. Love, unfortunately for everyone involved, involves a measure of trust. Hamlet did not trust Ophelia at all, preferring to use her as a method of gaining credibility for his madness. even though Hamlet weeps when Ophelia dies, and he claims to have loved her, I feel that Hamlet just had a little crush on a girl a third of his age.
I believe that Hamlet loved Ophelia, he just didn't want her to get hurt by all of his frustration and confusion. I think that he knew that Polonius was plotting against him and he did not want Ophelia to get hurt by the fighting between Polonius, Claudius, and himself. The grave yard scene at the end shows how much Hamlet loved Ophelia, when he said that the love of 40 brothers could not compare to his love for her.
Hamlet did love ophelia. He was really upset when he found out she died and he said himself he did love her. He might have not loved her the entire time he could of had just some feelings for her since he was mean/abusive to her earlier in the play but by the end yes.
Hamlet does love Ophelia, you can tell this because they were very close and the only reason Hamlet pulls away is because he has to kill Claudius to revenge his father. When Ophelia you can tell that he loves her because of how he acted.
Hamlet always loved Ophelia. He still loved her after her death. The evidence that supports this is that during her funeral he was extremely upset and distraught when he found out that she had drowned.
Hamlet did adore and love Ophelia because he was terribly upset at her funeral and showed strong emotions when he would speak to her throughout the play.
I think he did love her. He showed this when he was so emotional about her death. He had a lot going on so it was hard for him to show his love but he did in fact love her.
Hamlet did love Ophelia although he didn't openly show it for most of the play. Throughout the play he tried to protect her from the madness occurring in Denmark and then when she died he broke down like someone in love would. I don't think he ever stopped loving her; ultimately he could have been doing all of this for them both, so that when he was ready they could be together.
I believe that Hamlet did love Ophelia. He admits that he does in the graveyard scene. He says he loves her more then 40 thousand men put together. He only says he doesn't to protect her.
i think Hamlet did love Ophelia. Once he found out about the death of his fathered and was told he needed to get revenge he then stopped loving her because he was to focused on his plan. he does this to keep her safe.
I think that Hamlet has always loved Ophelia. He didn't want her to get involved with everything that is going on. The fact that he has to kill the king consumes him to the point he neglects Ophelia and is angered when she just because part of Polonius's plan. Although once she dies, he realizes that he will no longer have her and it saddens him.
I think Hamlet did really love her. In the begining they were spending a lot of time together, but then when he found out that he had to kill the king everything changed. He went "crazy" and thing just went down hill from there. After he found out that Ophelia died he felt bad.But in the end I say tat Hamlet really did love her.
Hamlet loved Ophelia, but he knew it was not going to work. He also did not want to hurt her. However, he became so obsessed with avenging his father's murder that Ophelia came second to him.
I think that hamlet did truly love Ophelia although he did act like he didn't. I dont think he ever stopped loving her and that he was just mad that Polonius was spying on them and he might have thought that she was part of the plan
Hamlet does love Ophelia and he shows this because when he finds out that she is dead, he gets really upset. Also, he tells Ophelia to go to a nunnery because he wants her to get out of the trouble there in Denmark and to not face Claudius's trouble anymore
I don't think Hamlet ever stopped loving Ophelia. Though it may have seemed at point that he didnt, i believe that he did this only to protect her. He loved her too much to drag her down with him in the wicked deeds he was planning. He never stopped loving her but he didnt always show his love outwardly. I think the way he acts at her funeral shows his true feelings for her.
Well, Hamlet did scream that he loved her. So he never did lose his love for her. At the time, he was more focused on his revenge so he was able to act like he did not love her in order to have his revenge. He chose his revenge over his love for Ophelia, and he never admitted how much he loved her before he realized that she was dead. So, yeah, he loved her.
I think that Hamlet always loved Ophelia and never stopped loving her. I think that when he thought he didn't love her anymore after he yelled at her, he actually did deep down because when she died he was hurt deeply and his true feelings came out about her.
Hamlet loves Ophelia deeply and looks out for her. he wants to keep her out of the trouble by telling her to go to a nunnery. He confesses his love for her once he finds out she is dead
I think Hamlet loved Ophelia all along. The scene were he disgraced her was because he was trying to put on a front of being mad so he would eventually be able to kill Claudius. In the end of the play when Ophelia was being buried Hamlet said how much he loved her.
Hamlet completely loved Ophelia and never stopped. He was just going through some emotional issues with trusting women because of his mother's actions and then took it out on Ophelia. However he always cared about her, so much that he wanted her to leave so she would not see him become crazy or become a murderer.
Hamlet does truly care for Ophelia. His disinterest and passive attitude towards her affections for him was just to protect her from his actions. By rejecting her, he hoped to spare her the pain of learning of Claudius's eventual slaying and of Hamlet's presumed madness.
He did love her, but never wanted her to be a part of his life because he didn't want to hurt her or bring her into any of the drama that occured in the story.
We believe that Hamlet always loved Ophelia and we base this belief off of how he was sorrow stricken when he saw her dead body. Furthermore, when he tells her to go away to a nunnery it is because he wants to protect her and he doesn't want her to get caught up in all of his drama for example, him acting mad.
Yes he loves her. he says so in the graveyard scene and i don't believe that he ever stops loving her because if it is real love, then there is no end to it. i think he says what he says and does what he does to sell his craziness and only for that reason.
Hamlet did love Ophelia even though she wasnt of noble decent. This is very much so true when they are in the scene with the grave diggers and he sees the burial. Once her realizes that its Ophelia he says he loved her and begins to cry.
He loves Ophelia the whole time. He tries to get her to leave for her safety when he knows that he is going to kill the king, and at her funeral he tells Laertes that he loved her more than Laertes ever could.
I think Hamlet did love Ophelia because he knew what he must do but he wanted to keep her out of the problem. He acted like a pansy because he loved her so much that he didn't want to hurt her. He told Ophelia to get to a nunnery to save her heart and her innocence from the cruelity of life.
Hamlet LOVES Ophelia, His love is so immense that he is afraid to lose her that if he does he will have to accept death like he did and might go more insane than he already is....
Hamlet did love Ophelia, I have no doubt. But he showed it in the only way he knew how. Hamlet had other pressing problems though, and he was distracted from Ophelia which confused her.
Hamlet did love Ophelia for the duration of the play. He was very close to her at the beginning of the play, and seems to draw farther away from her throughout the play, but that is due to his confusion over what to do about Claudius. This does not mean that he doesn't love Ophelia. It is obvious that Hamlet still loves Ophelia based on his grief on realizing that she is dead.

i think Hamlet was very in love with Ophelia and he was just frustrated with the fact that she was so easily persuaded by higher figured.

Deep down I think he did love her. However, it was love of a friendship instead of a relationship.
