The only true friendship in the play was that between Emilia and Desdemona. All other friendships were false for one person and very real for the other person, contributing to the theme of deception in Othello.
It shows that you can't really trust everyone, and that friends can turn against you. Desdemona remained faithful and true to Othello, even when she is doubted. Cassio also remained loyal to Othello, in the sense that he never wanted or had been with Desdemona.
I think that Othello looks at friendship as a strong bond. Iago is said to be Othello's friend and at the time Othello decides to listen to his friend and how "loyal" he is instead of trusting and listening to the one that he loves.
Othello shows how it is possible for small suspicions to overcome important friendships. Cassio and Desdemona both remain loyal to Othello through the end. Emilia is a loyal character, even though she "betrays" her husband she stays committed to doing the right thing. Desdemonda shows her friendship by continually reassuring Othello that she is faithful to him. Iago shows his false friendship by giving advice that seems good but is actually very harmful. Othello shows his devotion to Desdemona by strangling her.
The play shows the power of friendship. Othello thinks he is friends with Iago when Iago is only consumed with his personal agenda. Iago uses multiple friendships for his personal gain, completely ignoring their feelings. Friends prove more loyal than spouses in the play. Othello trusts Iago over Desdemona and Emilia in the end choices Desdemona over Iago.
It shows how quickly friendship can turn and change. Friends one day are bitter enemies the next. Desdemona remains loyal to Othello. Emilia tries to say loyal to Desdemona. Cassio remains loyal to Othello throughout the play.
Friendship in Othello didn't mean much to the main characters. Almost all of them ended up committing some act of betrayal. The only one who stayed true was Desdemona.
one charater that was both loyal and shows friendship is emilia. she was she was loyal to her husband all the way through the play until the end when she spoke against him. she got him the handkerchief like he told her. she was also very loyal to her friendship with desdemona. she was always there for desdmona and gave her guidance when desdemona was upset and confused even after desdemonas death she would not leave and when emilia was murdered by iago she wanted to be beside her.
There are a lot of examples where people ask their friends for advice and where they are trusting -sometimes too trusting. Iago is essentially the center of everything. Othello trusts him completely and considers him a friend. The play really says that you can't be sure that you can really trust anyone. Even your best friends could be your worst enemies... how realistic that is it's hard to tell.
The ones that truly care about you will go to magnificent odds to convince you the believe the truth. Desdemona, among the strong female leads of the play, with Emilia, do their best to convince Othello that they are honest. Loyalty is only true with those of strong, positively-morals and wills.
Friendship and loyalty are both important in Othello. Desdemona was a loyal wife to Othello but he failed to see that and ended up killing her because he didn't trust her. Cassio is loyal to Othello in the play even though again Othello doesn't trust him because he thinks he is sleeping with Desdemona. Emilia is a good friend to Desdemona and even though she had a part in the handkerchief problem but in the end came around to being there for her.
Othello shows how easily can be damaged and how fast jealously can ruin a friendship/relationship. Cassio remained loyal throughout the play, although he wasn't trusted by Othello and Iago was out to get him. Emilia also remained loyal to Desdemona when Othello killed her. She basically ruined her husband for her mistress and ended up murdered because of it.
i think the only two people who were loyal and stayed loyal through out the play is Cassio and Desdemona they both stayed loyal to Othello no matter what he did or said to them. this play also shows how it can seem like someones your friend but they turn on you and you cant trust any one.
Othello is kindof stupid when it comes to friendship. I bet he didn't have any real friends, so that's why he trusts Iago. Iago is actually a dirtbag, and a liar, but because Othello is nice and cares about Iago, and because Iago and Othello used to be cool he trusts him even though he should probably get the hint that Iago doesn't like him anymore, and he's a two faced jerk.
Emilia and Desdemona are really friends. They care a lot about each other, and are very good together. Emilia stands up for Desdemona, and Desdemona trusts Emilia, and goes to her for advise and help.
none of the characters except for Desdemona were truly loyal. Emilia was for the most part but she did steal Desdemona's handkerchief at one point for her own personal gain. As friendship goes Desdemona and Emilia were the closet things to friends in the play and the only ones even close to it.
