Desdemona, Emilia/Cassio, Roderigo, Othello, Iago. I put Desdemona first because she didn't do anything wrong. Emilia and Cassio are tied for first, Emilia gave up the handkerchief to Iago, and Cassio kept it once he found it in his room. They were both flawed. Othello is slightly flawed in that once there is a shadow of a doubt that Desdemona is unfaithful, his emotions swing to the other end of the spectrum and he will not hear the truth. Iago is just a jerk. There is really no argument against the fact that Iago is the least admirable person in the play.
Roderigo is at the bottom of the list because he is such a sucker and a rat. He is willing to do anything to get with Desdemona, who happens to be married, and in doing so really messes up her life.
Roderigo is still better than Iago, who is the mover of all the misfortune that happens to the characters. He hurts people because he can and that is the work kind of person.
Othello is not admirable because he could not keep it together and give Desdemona that benefit of a doubt. He is also a murderer.
I put Emilia above Desdemona because Emilia gives her life to reveal how much of snake Iago is. She does this for Desdemona, so she is pretty awesome.
Desdemona is just a really good person all around.
Othello: 4, tricked by Iago into thinking Desdemona was unfaithful even though he had little evidence and Emilia told him otherwise, and he killed her.
Roderigo: 3, he was misled by Iago but wanted to right his wrongs in the end although he was tricked into killing Cassio so he didnt do a very good job turning noble
Cassio: 2, although he messes up once for the most part he is loyal
Iago: 6, he messed everyone else up, and is the worst character in the play
Desdemona: 1, because she is the most innocent person in the play
Emilia: 5, said she would cheat on her husband if she could gain enough from it. Tricked into helping Iago. But in the end stood up for Desdemona and told everyone what Iago was up to.
Desdemona Emilia Cassio Othello Roderigo Iago Because Iago convinced Roderigo to kill Cassio, it proves that Roderigo is not morally strong, and that Iago is the true definition of evil. Othello was also easily fooled by Iago's lies. Cassio was a true friend and strong ally, even though Othello did not believe him; he was telling the truth. Desdemona is the definition of kind and loving, and Emilia does everything in her power to help the situation.
1. Desdemona 2. Emilia 3. Cassio 4. Roderigo 5. Othello 6. Iago I ranked them by who did the less harm in the play. Although Othello was admirable at first, he killed Desdemona. Desdemona never lied or harmed anyone- so she is number one.Iago is of course last because he did not care who he harmed. Characters like Emilia, Cassio, and Roderigo had their flaws but did not do too much harm.
Desdemona because she was faithful throughout the play. Emilia because she stood up to Iago and told everything that happened. Cassio because he didn't do really do any wrong and just got caught up in everything. Othello because he was good at first but then was corrupted and killed his wife. Iago is last because everything bad that happened was his fault.
Rank the characters (Othello, Roderigo, Cassio, Iago, Desdemona, Emilia) in the play from most admirable to least admirable. Explain why you arranged the characters in this order.
Desdemona Emilia Cassio Roderigo Othello Iago
Obviously Iago would be least admirable. He is a disgusting depiction of a human being. He shows no remorse for any of the wrong doing he has done. He is malicious. I put Othello as next 'least desirable' because he didn't even go to his wife to question her about her supposed infidelity. He simply condemned her in his mind, and took her life.He got progressively worse as a character in terms of morals as the play progressed. Next was Roderigo. He wasn't such a bad guy, he just wanted some love. I mean, he was going after a married woman, but all in all, I didn't hate him. He just was kind of unintelligent. You can't hate a person for that. The second most admirable person I put was Emilia. She was loyal to Desdemona through everything. I can't blame her for giving Iago the hankercheif, she just wanted his love. She always stood up for Desdemona and cared for her, although her morals in regard to her husband were a little lacking, putting her below Desdemona. First admirable was Desdemona. Innocent, loving, and true to the very end, she was the most admirable character. I only wish she would've done more to convince Othello otherwise. But that's just part of her naivety. She trusted him to believe her.
I think Desdemona and Cassio are on the same boat. Iago really screwed them over when it came to their relationship with Othello. They were both innocent, yet Othello basically hated them. Emilia could have been a tad bit more loyal when it came to the handkerchief. Othello was just a poor soul who got played by Iago. Othello ended up killing the love of his life and dying himself. Iago is really just the worse person in this play
Desdemona - Very innocent and loyal but murdered because of Iago Cassio - A good friend to Othello but Othello is trying to kill him Othello - A good leader but easily fooled into believing what bad things Iago told him Emilia - A good friend to Desdemona but her actions with the handkerchief did not help the situation Roderigo - Tries to kill Cassio Iago - He is just a bastard
Desdemona- She is innocent to say the least and does in fact love Othello with all her heart and then winds up paying the price of death, for what…nothing at all.
Cassio – because throughout the whole play he has been the trusting and honest one, he hasn’t done anything wrong and wants what’s best for the others around him. I would say is still corruptible because of the fact that he still did drink when he shouldn’t have.
Emilia- She looks out for herself and wants nothing but to please her husband. She does care for Desdemona and looks out for her as well. Although a lot of things were started because of her taking the handkerchief to Iago.
Othello- He is indeed a tragic hero. He was a wonderful commander and loved Desdemona with all his heart but he did kill her and himself because of Iago’s corruption.
Roderigo- He was corrupted and “played” by Iago and searched out nothing but what could help him get what he wants.
Iago- He is a terrible friend and an awful person. He caused the death of so many people and did it because he wanted to seek revenge. He is the villain in this play.
Desdemona-She really stayed pure and true throughout the whole play.
Cassio-He was also admirable throughout the play, however, he did at one point give into peer pressure that led to a fight.
Emilia-Emilia tried to stay loyal to Desdemona and her husband both. She had a tough decision to make. She stole the handkerchief but in the end stuck up for Desdemona. Othello-He tried to admirable and a good husband and general, but he ended up being conflicted and in the end wasn't very admirable at all.
Roderigo-He was kind of splinless throughout the whole piece. I wouldn't really consider him admirable
Iago-The least admirable person of all. He really was basically the antithesis.
Desdemona didn't betray anyone. She was the epitome of innocence.
Cassio didn't really do anything wrong except for maybe cheat on his wife... but it wasn't with Desdemona so he is thrown into the mix just because Iago wanted his job.
Emilia stole Desdemona's handkerchief and gave it to Iago but she didn't know what it would be used for... she just wanted the gratitude of her husband. Also, she turned around at the end and stood up for what she believed in.
Othello killed his wife. Smothered her on their wedding sheets. This wasn't entirely his fault though because Iago set him up to do it. He even went as far as to tell him how.
Roderigo is pathetic. He babbles about killing himself and then falls for Iago's tricks and sells all of his land so that he can be with desdemona which is clearly impossible.
Iago is evil. He is the cause of all of the problems in the play
Desdemona: Desdemona never really does anything wrong in the play. Yes, she lies to her father, but she does it for an admirable reason. All she ever tries to do is please her husband, and help Cassio. Emilia: Emilia is wise, and loyal. She's a trustworthy person. She stands up to clear Desdemona's name even though she knows her husband will make her pay for it. Cassio: Cassio would be higher on the list, but he's actually the only character that cheats on their spouse in the play. He tries to be a good lieutenant, but gives in to Iago's peer pressure and ends up drinking. Despite this, Cassio is still a very admirable character. Othello: In the beginning of the play, Othello would have been much higher on the list, but after Iago convinces him Desdemona has cheated on him, he becomes much less admirable. He even smothers his wife. Roderigo: Roderigo is selfish. All he wants to do is get with Desdemona, even though she's already happily married to Othello. Iago: Iago is just a terrible person. He's driven by unwarranted vengeance, and hate. He's mean to his wife, he's sets out to ruin Othello, and is responsible for the murder of Desdemona, Roderigo, Cassio, and Emilia.
desdemona and emilia would both be very high up on my list because of how they reacted to their situatons. desdemona was innocent to the entire situation that was going and did nothing wrong despite what othello believed. emilia was also innocent to what was happening and the only following her usbands wishes when she took desdemonas handkerchief.
cassio wold be next because, other then when he was drunk, he was very loyal to othello and admirable in his actions. he did not try to get revenge like iago.
rodrigo was next because he was greatly being influenced by iago to the actions he did. he truly loved desdemona and anted to win ner love in retun. it was iagos influences that convinced him ti try and kill cassio.
othello was not very admirable in his actions especisally in the last sections. he completely believed what iago was telling him and used this influence to convince himself to murder his wife. he also helped to plot cassio murder as well.
iago is last. he was the instigator of all of the plots going on the only eason he wanted othello to fall was because he believed that othello slept with emilia. he did not even have solid proof. his whole intent was revenge throghout hte entire play
1 Desdemona 2 Cassio 3 Emilia 4 Roderigo 5 Othello 6 Iago Desdemona is first since through out the whole play she didn't do anything wrong. Cassio is seconded since the only thing he did wrong was get drunk and fight that guy. Emilia followed Cassio since she did steal the handkerchief from Desdemona. Roderigo is 4th since he listened and did everything that Iago wanted him too. Othello is next since he killed Desdemona. Iago is last because he did nothing good through out the whole play.
