I think it is important because it shows that he is an outsider, and it gives him a reason to act insecure like he does. It also explains why he doesn't fully understand what is going on.
This high standing post proves that Othello needs to be an outsider for the context of the play and dialogue to make sense. His character is based around his personal insecurities and any of the action of the play wouldn't make any sense if he was a commoner to Venice.
I think Othello was a Moor for a reason. He was already insecure because he was so different form everyone else in Venice. This allowed Iago to get under his skin even more.

No I don't believe that the character of Othello had to be a Moor, but the fact that he was made the fact that he was an outsider much more clear, especially to himself.
I dont think it is that important for him to be a moor. If he was like the rest of them, he would still be a general and would still only know war. So he still act the same way he did. Plus Iago easily deceived everyone so he still would have tricked Othello another way even if it was not using his insecurity against him.
The moors are different in race and some culture compared to the Venetians so it made him stand out in the play. That didn't really help him but I wouldn't say that it really would have mattered in this case if he was Moor or not.
Do you agree or disagree that it is important for the action of the play that Othello is a Moor? Why or why not?
I think it's not important that he was a Moor, but it was important that he was an outsider. I think the idea that Iago is trying to plant seeded itself in Othello's brain, because he was self conscience in the ways of the Venetians. He simply assumed he didn't understand, so he turned to someone "wiser" (Iago) to give him information.
I think that it is appropriate that he is a Moor. It shows that he doesn't know all the ways. He is vulnerable and can be easily corrupted because he is insecure about himself.
i think that it was important that Othello was a moor and not one of the Venetians. this was a main flaw to him because of the fact that he was insecure about his lack of knowledge of the Venetians and general naivety.
I think that it is important that Othello is a Moor. His insecurity about being an outsider and not totally understanding what is going on is important because it is part of his insecurity which is a recurring theme.
I think it was important for Othello to be a moor because it helped establish him as an outsider, which helped create his feelings of insecurity.
I also feel it was important for the light dark imagery. Although, it may have made more sense for Iago to be a moor instead of Othello because Iago sucked.

it is important because if he wasn't and outsider there wouldn't have been insecurities that lead to his down fall.
