Rank the characters (Othello, Roderigo, Cassio, Iago, Desdemona, Emilia)
in the play from most admirable to least admirable. Explain why you
arranged the characters in this order.
Desdemona is the most admirable because she is loyal throughout the play and she is the only character that remains completely true throughout the entire play. Emilia is next because she has a character that proves to be true to her beliefs by defending Desdemona and going against Iago at the end of the play. Cassio is next because he never did anything wrong and he's not rated higher because he never did anything honorable or admirable. Roderigo is about the same as Cassio, except that he wants Desdemona when she is already married to Othello. Next is Othello because he was weak and broke down to the pressures of an untrue friend. Iago is last because of all of the trickery he used on the entire group of characters.
Desdemona Cassio Othello Emilia Roderigo Iago The reason I put them in this certain order is because I feel that Desdemona is a very pure innocent wife who loves her husband. I think this makes her the best of the characters. Iago was my least admirable because there was no true reason for him to do this and he never stopped even when he got what he wanted. I put Othello in the middle because in the beginning I saw him as a wise, strong, and noble man who was greatful for what he had, but then in the end he turned to be insecure, gullible, and almost pathetic -Ross Romanoski
I admire Emilia the most because in the end, she came forward with the truth even though she knew it would result in her death. She stood up for her friend Desdemona, and revealed Iago's lies. I believe Iago was the least admirable because he created a whole plan to ruin a marriage that resulted in death. I put Desdemona, Roderigo, and Cassio in the middle because I believe that they were just roped into something they had nothing to do with. Othello is not admirable because he was gullible and unintelligent throughout the whole play.
1. Emilia (knows the true nature of the world and has insight) 2. Cassio (he got blamed through the play but never did any wrong) 3. Desdemona( trully innoscent but does not stick up for herself) 4. Othello (he was put in a bad situation and is truly good but then had evil in him) 5. Roderigo (he believed in Iago and did whatever he wanted without making an opinion on it himself) 6. Iago (EVIL)
I put Desdemona first because she is pure innocence. Cassio is like to male counterpart to Desdemona, as he has done nothing wrong. Emilia helps Iago but in the end stands up for Desdemona. Roderigo wasn't nice but he had no true malicious intent. I rank Othello lower than Iago since Iago was evil, but was wise enough to play everyone off each other. I really did not like Othello since he never once looked for an opinion other than Iago and listened to it. Thus his is the greater evil because he had the choice to believe differently but he didn't.
Emilia first because she did not know the conflict and what was going on in Cpyrus so she just stood as a bystander. Then Desdemona, because she never did anything wrong and never cheated while being married to othello. Then cassio, because he was also a good guy not intended to do anything wrong. Then roderigo, because he was a bad guy because he wanted to kill othello. Then Othello, beacause he was insecure and did the wrong things. Then finally Iago, because he was the major villian he wanted to get back at everyone. Pathik Patel
Desdemona is loyal throughout the whole play. Emilia sides with Desdemona at the end. Cassio is honest and unfairly treated. Othello becomes obsessed with jealousy and gullible. Roderigo is manipulated by Iago. Iago is evil!
Iago is the most admirable because he does not allow anyone to control him. He has the ability of manipulate others because everyone else is stupid. He knows what he wants and can do anything to get it. Emilia comes next because she recognizes the evil in the world, and picks her friend Desdemona over his unfaithful husband Iago. Desdemona comes next because she is honest to Othello till the end of her life. Othello is wise and good at the beginning, but marries evil by the end.
Iago, Othello, Roderigo, Cassio, Emilia, and Desdemona.
Iago is the most admirable character in the play because even though he is a cruel person on the outside, he confessed himself at the end and there is still good in him. Othello is the next one because he is a Moor and does not fit in with everybody. Everyone is tricking him and he is unaware. Even though he killed Desdemona at the end he took it back and killed himself. Then I put Roderigo because all he wants is Desdemona's love and how can you hate a character that will do anything for love. Cassio is next because he is an ok character and does not do much. I mean he took Iago's spot as Lt. and should be punished for that, not a very likable character. Then there is Emila, she is not very desirable because she is cruel and give the hankercheif to Iago to plot against Othello. She could have stopped all this madness. The least desirable character is Desdemona because she is a wuss and should have been killed in the first place, nobody likes her innocence.
Desdemona is loyal and innocent throughout the entire play. Cassio never did anything wrong and was oblivious to everything and was staged as the bad guy. Emilia, while she took the handkerchief, she remained loyal to Desdemona at the end. Roderigo was just blinded by love and stupidity and didnt know any better. Iago used trickery on everyone but never went and killed everyone himself. Othello is last because he is the one while honest and true at the beginning turned on everyone and ended up killing the one he supposedly loved. Shawna Buckwalter
Desdemona obviously is the most honorable because she trusts othello up to he point he kills her even when she knows it is coming. next is cassio because even though he should be mad at othello for taking away his lieutenant title he remains a friend and tries to make things right. Emilia is honorable by how she sticks up for desdemona in front of Iago. it is pretty hard to find honor in roderigo. Iago is just a jerk.
1. Desdemona (She was innocent throughout the whole play, and does no wrong. She stays faithful to Othello throughout the end. ) 2. Emilia (She stays loyal to Desdemona at the end, and she was giving her advice about Othello.) 3. Cassio (He really didn't too much wrong in the play) 4. Othello (He was good in the play in the beginning, but was easily convinced by Iago. Evil takes over him.) 5. Rodrigo 6. Iago- He is obviously the worst. He does no good in the play. He is evil to everyone.
Desdemona stayed true to herself even though no one believed her. Emilia eventually took sides with Desdemona and cassio was truthful as well. he remained the loyal friend unlike Iago who betrayed othello. Othello needed to think for his self and not be easily persuaded.
I think Desdemona is the most admirable character because she remains loyal throughout the course of the play. She stays true to herself, and never does any of the sins she is accused of. Cassio is the next most admirable character, because he remains a true and loyal friend to Othello. Cassio never does anything to hurt Othello, and is not involved in any deception because he remains loyal the entire time. Emilia is the next most admirable character. I do not have her above Cassio, because at the beginning she seems takes Desdemona's hankerchief and gives it to her husband. Until the end, it is unclear whether her loyalty lies to Iago or Desdemona. In the end however, she is admirable because she tells all that she knows, and dies next to her already dead friend. Rodrigo is the next character, because he is involved in Iago's plots and listens to what Iago says. Rodrigo desperately wants Desdemona's love and will do anything he can to get it. Othello is the second to last admirable character, because he falls to peer pressure and deception and does not stay true to his feelings, or even listen to what Desdemona has to say. Othello makes rash decisions and does not think logically. Iago in my opinion is definitely the least admirable character in the play, because he is the mastermind behind all the lying and deception. Iago appears to be a friend to Othello, but has alterior motives. Iago is only kind to Othello, so that he gains Othello's trust so that he will believe him when he says Desdemona cheated on him.
Desdemona is the most admirable because she is honest and innocent from the beginning of the play to the end when she takes her last breath. After Desdemona, Emilia is the next most admirable character because she goes against her husband and speaks the truth about what truly happened at the end of the play. Cassio is next because he does is honest throughout the play. Next is Roderigo because he tries to steal Desdemona away from Othello. Othello is after Roderigo, because he was very gullible and trusted every one even when they were trying to deceive him. Finally, Iago is the least admirable because he deceives all of the characters in the play and tries to ruin everyone else for his own benefit.
1.) Desdemona: She is the most admirable because of her undying devotion and love for her husband. I can not recall a single flaw in this character throughout the play, aside from possibly being too innocent. Even after Othello nearly kills her, she still defends him.
2.) Cassio: This Lieutenant appointed by Othello earned his position, and was a noble and valiant ally to his general. Iago's trickery was the only thing that darkened his image in Othello's eye.
3.)Emilia: The wife of Iago seemed to have tremendous worldly experience, and was able to see through Iago's lies better than anyone else in the play. Her fault was initially trying to help her evil husband by giving him Desdemona's hanker chief, but she made up for it by defending Desdemona to her death at the end.
4.) Othello: The lead character in this play is not the most admirable in any way. His naive nature can only excuse his travesties to a certain extent. He rarely questioned all of the lies that Iago told him, and did not believe his totally innocent wife, which lead to him murdering her at the end. You would think that such an honorable general would be smarter...
5.) Roderigo: This character is simply pathetic, and cries nearly the entire play. He clings to Iago for plans to get Desdemona in his good graces, and follows all of Iago's plans like a lost puppy. Worthless and weak, there is nothing to admire about Roderigo at all.
6.) Iago: Simply the most evil, deceiving, despicable, filthy liar in the play. His trickery resulted in the death of numerous innocent characters, and the fall of a great general. The only admirable thing about Iago is how he was able to manipulate so many people.
Desdemona did the least wrong in the entire play. She has never cheated on Othello and only wanted to help Cassio out of the goodness of her heart. Cassio is the next admirable because he only wanted to be Othello right hand man and wanted to make amends. Emilia is third because although she stole the scarf by the end of the play she stood by Desdemona. Roderigo, Othello and Iago are all the last three because they all killed some one for something that was not justified.
Emilia is the most admirable because in the end she stood up to evil Iago and told the truth. However, she waited until everyone was dead and it was too late to do anything about it but theres not much to compare her to because everyone else is worse. Roderigo is second because even though he's trying to get a wife to cheat on her husband he has a lot of drive and dedication which he could better use as something more practical, like a stone mason. Cassio is next because the poor lad is just trying to do well in the army and doesnt realize he is being set up. Iago is next because even though hes a pretty terrible person hes pretty consistant and persistant. Othello is next because he is a total wuss who should not have gotten married in the first place because he clearly has no self confidence. Desdemona is the worst of all because she let herself become a damsel in distress and even though she loved her husband she clearly didnt need to let him kill her to prove that.
ank the characters (Othello, Roderigo, Cassio, Iago, Desdemona, Emilia) in the play from most admirable to least admirable. Explain why you arranged the characters in this order.
Desdemona is most admirable because she let her husband take her life because of something she never did. She is also unable to fathom what she could have done because she is so naive. She dies for her husband whom she still loves at the end. Cassio is next because he also dies because of something that never happened. but he stays loyal to Othello the entire time but Othello thinks that he abused his friendship. Emilia is next because she dies next to her best friend and is loyal to Desdemona the entire time even though she helps, but doesn't know what her husband is up to. Rodrigo is just boring and lonely and in love. doesnt really matter much. Iago is just scum. -Alyssa Dudley
1. Desdemona 2. Cassio 3. Roderigo 4. Emilia 5. Othello 6. Iago I chose to put the first three as my most admirable characters because they are simply pons in the game of chess that Iago is playing. Emilia loses points in my book, when she doesn't return the handkerchief to Desdemona whom she knows is the rightful owner. Othello is a weak mental character who can't seem to think things through or think for himself for that matter. Iago is a villainous character whose triumphs in evil only lead him to a just punishment.
1. Emilia: In the end of the play she was loyal to Desdamona and she unveiled all of Iagos horribleness. 2. Desemona: She is so innocent that she cannot even wrap he mind around the concept of people doing wrong on purpose. 3. Cassio: He was the unfortunate one in the play who was just simply in the wrong place in the wrong time and got caught in the cross fire and then used as a pawn in Iago's plan 4. Roderigo: He was a man caught in a love that would never happen and was so blinded by love and furry with Othello for being Desdamona's husband that he let Iago use him with out questioning him. 5. Othello: He is rash and does not think about what he is doing and instead of believing his wife or even bothering to ask her any questions he trusts Iago completely and pays dearly for that. 6. Iago: He is a horrible person who uses everyone in the play to his gain. He trick and traps people and is that cause of four tragic deaths that would never have happened if he would not have been so greedy and evil.
Desdemona: She is true and pure, and her innocence shines through. Emilia: She is loyal to Desdemona and is the first to realize that Iago is at fault. Cassio: He has a drinking problem and got caught up in the crossfire of Iago's plots. Othello: He is insecure which makes him sacrifice his convictions and believe Iago. Roderigo: He is gullible and desperate. Iago: He is selfish and manipulative. Makayla Hunt
1.Desdemona: She was the most innocent character. 2. Cassio: He never did anything wrong and was caught up in it. 3.Emilia: In the end she was loyal to desdemona. 4. Othello: I don't think he was overly a great character 5. Rodrigo: He was just dumb 6. Iago: Hes evil
Desdemona: She is completely innocent and faithful the entire play Emilia: She is the first to realize Iago's manipulation, and is innocent herself Cassio: He is innocent throughout the play, but is stuck in a situation that he handles well Othello: Loves with all of his being, but is too gullible with the information Iago gives him Roderigo: Helps Iago follow through on his evil plan and lies Iago: He is the reason that the whole tragedy happens, he is the lies behind it all --Megan Cook
Desdemona is the most admirable character because she remains innocent and loyal to Othello throughout the play despite his false beliefs about her loyalty. Once realizing Iago's plan at the end of the play, Emilia defends Desdemona and turns against her husband who she once admired. Cassio never did anything to make him least admirable, but he never does anything worth a higher rank. Othello is next on the list because he is quick to believe the lies Iago feeds him about his wife. In the end, his jealousy gets to him and leads him to murder Desdemona. Iago is the least admirable character because he schemes from the beginning to ruin Othello and Cassio. -Lauren Hallowell
Emilia is most for going against her husband when the truth was out Dessy is next has she let love rule her life. Othello is in the middle for he did even deeds but apologized for them. Cassio is not especially admirable or not. Rody is scum and minion of Iago is the lowest of them all.
Desdemona is the most admirable, as she is free of vice, and remains innocent throughout the play.
After her comes Cassio, since, while he has a vice, he is admirable and loyal throughout the play.
Then comes Emilia, because although she, in the beginning, is loyal to Iago, her alliegance switches, and she ends the play doing the right thing and exposing Iago.
Next is Othello, because he starts out as an admirable character, but is influenced by Iago throughout the play to become evil.
Roderigo is next, because he was able to be easily influenced by Iago, is rarely questions what he is doing or why.
Last is Iago, who, despite being the most interesting character, has no redeeming qualities.
Othello, Desdemona, Emilia, Rodrigo, Cassio, And Iago. This is the order because Othello trusts everyone and gives no one any reason to not trust him Desdemona is the same way and she is very loyal throughout the play to Othello even though she does not seem it and I have Iago at the end because he is the evil mastermind and ultimately the reason for all the death that takes place during this play because he is very sneaky and harmful
Desdemona: Never commited adultry and truly loved Othello. Emilia: Remains honest to Desdemona when first learning Iago's evilness. Othello: Truly loved Desdemona but believed Iago's web of lies. Cassio: Remains loyal and truthful as lies about him spread. Roderigo: He aides Iago in planning out his decietful plan. Iago: Because of Iago's truthless manners, madness spreads.
Desdemona, Emilia, Othello, Cassio, Rodrigo, and Iago. Desdemona is loyal to her husband through out the whole play. Emilia was next because she went against her husband. Then Othello because at the end of the play he sees he has done wrong, and if Iago had not lied to him he would have not done the evil things that he did. Cassio didn't really do anything evil or good. Rodrigo could have lived his life but he listen to Iago's lies and wanted to get Desdemona for himself. Iago is the worst he does all these evil things for his own pleasure.
Desdemona: Never did anything wrong, just loved othello Emilia: She is the first person to know of Iago's plan and she stays true to Desdemona Cassio: He did not do anything wrong but gets put in bad situations that he handles well Othello:He is caught in Iago's plan but he never says sorry for any of his actions Roderigo: He helps in Iago's plan Iago: he is the one who causes all the trouble and is a mean person. Katie Slobozien
Emilia, Desdemona, Othello, Iago, Cassio, Roderigo. Emilia stands up to her husband when she finds out his scheming. Desdemona was innocent and faithful to her husband, staying faithful until the end. Othello was gullible and acted too quickly, he should've asked questions, but felt remorse after everything and ended up killing himself for what he had done. Iago was evil and scheming, but intelligence is something to admire. Roderigo is just jealous and hateful and doesn't seem to have many redeeming qualities besides possibly bravery.
Cassio was an honest man throughout the play and obeyed his duties, even when it meant his excusal. He did not want to drink, but was eventually tricked into it by Iago. His position at the end of the play shows his true leadership abilities that may have been hidden before.
Desdemona was innocent the entire play and could not fathom much of the evil that occurred. While this makes her desirable, she does not have the worldliness that some of the other characters posses. Her naive nature leads to her downfall.
Othello is still an admiral character because he used to be so noble. Iago was very manipulative and since Othello was naturally a very passionate person, Desdemona's infidelity was taken as seriously as everything else in his life.
Emilia is able to see what no one else could first. She has the insight that Desdemona lacks, but still have fringes of dishonesty.
Roderigo is a spineless character that is easily manipulated by Iago.
Iago is the worst character because he is pure evil. He relishes on other's misfortunes and thrives on death and destruction. While he is smart, being smart in an evil sense is in no way desirable.
Desdemona: Was loyal and the most true character the whole play Emilia: She was honest but stole the handkerchief Cassio: Never was evil or anything good either Othello: He killed his wife and became evil Rodrigo: Wanted Desdemona and followed Iago's lies the whole time Iago: He lies the whole play and is just a ignorant self centered person
I chose this order because I feel that Desdemona is truly an innocent person and stays loyal to Othello even when he turns dark. Emilia is also high on the list because she finally sees what is going on and stands up for what is right. I have Roderigo and Iago last because of their actions and because they knew that what they were doing was wrong
Desdemona was first because it is obvious that she is a good person. Bad personality traits were so foreign to her, she didnt even know how to comprehend them. Cassio comes next because he is innocent at heart and any negative attention he received was due to Iago's trickery. Emilia comes third because although she is loyal and good at heart she does represent some evil when she admits she would make her husband a cuckold if no one knew about it after words. Roderigo comes next because he was very easily manipulated throughout the play and was really more of a decorative character. His roles were not that imperative to the meaning of the play. Iago follows because although his actions represent evil, he also through his devious acts, shows us high levels of intellect and knowledge which i believe to be key in human development. Lastly comes Othello because he represents true stupidity in his actions through out the play, believing the first person he talks to and not taking any other insight into perspective.
The reason I put them in this order was because Desdemona was obviously the best character and did nothing wrong. Cassio was next because he did nothing wrong and was being plotted against the entire time. Othello was next because he is a good person at heart but Iago brought the worst out in him. Emilia after him because even though she acts as though she is trying to be good she still stole the handkerchief and that is what hurt them. Roderigo is next because he was just a pawn and was played. Iago is the worst because this was his whole plan.

Desdemona, Cassio, Emilia, Roderigo, Othello, Iago.
-Becca Rizzo
1. Emilia
2. Roderigo
3. Cassio
4. Iago
5. Othello
6. Desdemona

Desdemona, Cassio, Emilia, Othello, Roderigo, Iago
1. Desdemona
2. Cassio
3. Roderigo
4. Emilia
5. Othello
6. Iago
I chose to put the first three as my most admirable characters because they are simply pons in the game of chess that Iago is playing.
3. Cassio: He was the unfortunate one in the play who was just simply in the wrong place in the wrong time and got caught in the cross fire and then used as a pawn in Iago's plan
4. Othello: I don't think he was overly a great character
5. Rodrigo: He was just dumb
6. Iago: Hes evil
Cole Mase
Desdemona: She is completely innocent and faithful the entire play
Emilia: She is the first to realize Iago's manipulation, and is innocent herself
Cassio: He is innocent throughout the play, but is stuck in a situation that he handles well
Othello: Loves with all of his being, but is too gullible with the information Iago gives him
Roderigo: Helps Iago follow through on his evil plan and lies
Iago: He is the reason that the whole tragedy happens, he is the lies behind it all
--Megan Cook
Desdemona, Emilia, Cassio, Rodergio, Othello, Iago
Emilia is most for going against her husband when the truth was out
Dessy is next has she let love rule her life.
Othello is in the middle for he did even deeds but apologized for them.
Cassio is not especially admirable or not.
Rody is scum and minion of Iago is the lowest of them all.
TROy
Roderigo, Iago,
Desdemona is the most admirable, as she is free of vice, and remains innocent throughout the play.
Peppers
Othello, Desdemona, Emilia, Rodrigo, Cassio, And Iago. This is the order because Othello trusts everyone and gives no one any reason to not trust him Desdemona is the same way and she is very loyal throughout the play to Othello even though she does not seem it and I have Iago at the end because he is the evil mastermind and ultimately the reason for all the death that takes place during this play because he is very sneaky and harmful
Calvin Conrad-Kline
Desdemona: Never commited adultry and truly loved Othello.
Emilia: Remains honest to Desdemona when first learning Iago's evilness.
Othello: Truly loved Desdemona but believed Iago's web of lies.
Cassio: Remains loyal and truthful as lies about him spread.
Roderigo: He aides Iago in planning out his decietful plan.
Iago: Because of Iago's truthless manners, madness spreads.
-Garrett Swope
Desdemona, Emilia, Othello, Cassio, Rodrigo, and Iago.
Desdemona is loyal to her husband through out the whole play.
Emilia was next because she went against her husband. Then Othello because at the end of the play he sees he has done wrong, and if Iago had not lied to him he would have not done the evil things that he did. Cassio didn't really do anything evil or good. Rodrigo could have lived his life but he listen to Iago's lies and wanted to get Desdemona for himself. Iago is the worst he does all these evil things for his own pleasure.
Samantha Cavalier
Desdemona: Never did anything wrong, just loved othello
Emilia: She is the first person to know of Iago's plan and she stays true to Desdemona
Cassio: He did not do anything wrong but gets put in bad situations that he handles well
Othello:He is caught in Iago's plan but he never says sorry for any of his actions
Roderigo: He helps in Iago's plan
Iago: he is the one who causes all the trouble and is a mean person.

--Savanna Sager
Cassio, Desdemona, Othello, Emilia, Roderigo, Iago.
Hannah Wastyk
Desdemona: Was loyal and the most true character the whole play
Emilia: She was honest but stole the handkerchief
Cassio: Never was evil or anything good either
Othello: He killed his wife and became evil
Rodrigo: Wanted Desdemona and followed Iago's lies the whole time
Iago: He lies the whole play and is just a ignorant self centered person

Desdemona
Emilia
Cassio
Othello
Roderigo
Iago
I chose this order because I feel that Desdemona is truly an innocent person and stays loyal to Othello even when he turns dark. Emilia is also high on the list because she finally sees what is going on and stands up for what is right. I have Roderigo and Iago last because of their actions and because they knew that what they were doing was wrong
Trey Baker
Desdemona
Cassio
Emilia
Roderigo
Iago
Othello
Desdemona, Cassio, Othello, Emilia, Roderigo, Iago
The reason I put them in this order was because Desdemona was obviously the best character and did nothing wrong. Cassio was next because he did nothing wrong and was being plotted against the entire time. Othello was next because he is a good person at heart but Iago brought the worst out in him. Emilia after him because even though she acts as though she is trying to be good she still stole the handkerchief and that is what hurt them. Roderigo is next because he was just a pawn and was played. Iago is the worst because this was his whole plan.
