MEDIA ETHICS SCENARIO #2

A well-known musician is filming an anti-smoking PSA (public service announcement) at your school. The school newspaper photographer gets pictures of him smoking a cigarette during a break. Your photo editor wants to run the photograph with the cutline “Rock Star Filmed AntiSmoking PSA on Tuesday.” Do you reword the caption?

Yes because it's hilarious.

I would rewrite the caption because the caption would not be correct. You should expose the musician.

I would not use the photos of the musician smoking because he wants to be a good influence. I would not reword the caption to promote not smoking

yes, to make it more appropriete.

Journalism is about sharing the truth. I would perhaps publish the article with a different picture and re-worded caption promoting not smoking, but then leak/share the picture of the musician smoking later. They should not be a role model for people if they are a hypocrite.

Yes, so the caption is truthful to the image.

I would because it would be hypocritical to an extent.
